A Message to Garcia

A Message to Garcia

One evening, nearly 120 years ago, a man named Elbert Hubbard had something on his mind. He sat down and wrote a 1500 word op-ed piece for the magazine he edited. Nothing special about that.

But those few pages – what Hubbard himself considered a literary trifle – swept round the world, carried from one person to the next, to the next.

93 Year Old Body Builder

Dr. Charles Eugster, back in 2012, gave a TEDx talk in Zurich on the importance of body building. He was 93 at the time. In that presentation, he told about his experience when he was a much younger 85. It seems he looked in the mirror and didn’t like what he saw.

Of course, sooner or later everybody does that, young and old alike. And most folks don’t do much about it (except to stop looking in the mirror so often). But on that particular day, Eugster decided to change what he was seeing.

Too Little Too Late? Phooie!

Ran across two things today within sixty seconds of each other.

First was the graphic on the left. Now, I like this kind of art … always have. If it’s eye catching and says something meaningful, ironic, funny or constructive, I’ll probably enjoy it. And this one, from Lori Deschene’s tinybuddha.com, said exactly what I wanted to hear this morning.

Some folks assume that their expiration date is hopelessly close and begin to act like they’re in their final days – even though those final days might go on for years longer than expected.

The Deaf Shall Surely Sing Again

Ever feel like things just keep going wrong for you? Is life crapping on you yet again? Maybe it’s even taken away the one thing in the world that you wanted most.

Well, before you give up and throw in the towel, I’d like you to take a couple of minutes and watch the video below.

Ten years ago, Mandy Harvey, while still in her teens and studying to be a singer, lost 100% of her hearing. Then,

The 5-Minute Therapist – Humor

Comedian Bob Newhart, in one of his most popular skits, offers a delicately nuanced solution to a lady suffering from a terrible phobia.

It’s How You Use it

Uncommon Grace

It doesn’t matter what talent, what skill, what resource you have, whether inborn, purchased or gifted to you. Unless you’re putting it to good use, it’s worthless.

A friend recently sent me a link to a YouTube video of a “handicapped” couple winning a top prize in a regular (non-handicapped) dance competition.

YouTube for Weight Loss

Weight Loss with Hypnosis/Self Hypnosis

So you’ve thought about losing a bit of weight. Well, if you go to YouTube.com and do a search for weight loss, you’ll find dozens — maybe hundreds — of free “hypnosis” videos. I’ve found, however, that many of them are poor quality.

The four videos below do measure up to professional standards. If you’ll take any one of these and play it, preferably twice a day, and don’t stop, you can expect to see results.

World Champion Public Speaker

“The Power of Words”

How much confidence would it take for you to get up and address a huge audience of highly experienced speakers? Well, just this past August Mohammed Qahtani, a security engineer, became the world’s best speaker — for 2015, at least — in Toastmasters International’s annual world championship.

The Skill of Self Confidence

Born with it, or trained to it?

It’s tempting to believe that confidence — if you’re short of it — is some kind of mysterious quality bestowed only upon certain select individuals. It’s easy to see who has it. They’re the ones who seem to just flow through life as easily and naturally as spring water down a mountainside.

But here’s a little secret. You can learn confidence (or build up more of it), just as you would with any other skill. Here to explain it is sports coach Dr. Ivan Joseph.
